Eyelash Extensions: What You Should Know Before Getting Them

So, I decided to try Eyelash Extensions. I’ve always loved the full lash look, and I had the longest lashes as a baby. I’m blessed with long lashes – but, like my hair, they are thin and scarce. Even with mascara, they aren’t full enough. I got used to wearing false lashes for a while, but they can start to be problematic.

Annoying things about false lashes:
  • -they come off (especially in the corners! So annoying)
  • -they feel heavy
  • -they last only a handful of wears (even with proper care)
  • -can be impossible to get them even

Am I right? The annoying things about false lashes list can go on for ages.

So, funnily enough found my artist through Instagram (does anyone else do their searching through social media). The first application was $100 for the full set. I made the mistake of bringing my sleeping baby who woke up and started having the worst crying fest. During the application, the eyes must remain closed. All he wanted to do was to look me in the eye…

I opted the first time for a more natural look. She filled in the missing spaces with extensions that were as long as my natural lashes. I loved the result! For the first time, it was the perfect amount to not feel overwhelmed by eyelashes.

Each time I went back for a refill I went a little bit more dramatic. Every 3 weeks I went for a refill – volume and length were added each time I went! The style of eyelash extension I chose was Russian Volume. Between the LONG lashes, medium and regular sized ones are also added. As a result,  you see a more natural glam look.

After my last appointment, I had a difficult time finding the extra time to go back for my refill. Finally, I decided to take a break from my eyelash extensions for a while. It took my lashes about 1 month to fully fall off.

What was I left with?

My eyelashes were not the same at all. The length is gone! I’m so upset – I was expecting them to be damaged a bit, as expected with extensions. However, I am so disappointed. Now even with mascara my lashes are VERY short and minimal. To get a glam makeup look I have to wear false lashes.

Also! I found this amazing new Eyelash Glue by Duo. It applies with a thin small brush – PERFECT for getting the corners to stay down.

It’s linked HERE (Sephora) and HERE (Amazon.com).

Would I Get Eyelash Extensions Again?

YES! They were amazing! It felt wonderful to wake up in the morning and not have to do my makeup. The great thing about the eyelash extensions is (depending on your lash style) that they give you that feeling of glam. The cost isn’t too expensive (my refills cost $60). Currently, I am looking for a new artist who is available on weekends! Currently, I am back to the daunting task of applying falsies every day (or when I need some glam).

I’m so glad you posted this because I’ve always wanted to get eyelash extensions, but never really knew much about it from someone else’s personal experience. I worry about their high maintenance, but it should would be so awesome to have them!

I thought about eyelash extensions recently. My lashes are very short and thin now. I’m not sure why this happened. I’m really careful about mascara because I forget to take my mascara off sometimes. I think that’s why they are thin after this kind of abuse. Oh my poor lashes. Anyway…I’m still thinking about getting those extensions.
